Wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Sean Bailey and I recently had my first ground class. I am in the DC area and really excited.

That's really cool that you are getting into flying! I'm a new pilot too, and am actually just ending ground school.

Welcome to this exciting hobby. You're in good hands here at AOPA.

Good for you Sean!  You will never regret getting into aviation.  What I would offer is that when you reach that point where you believe you'll never be able to fly a plane... just take a breath and sleep on it a couple of nights and you get into the plane and poof, the skill will be there.  We all have gone through that "plateau" phase of our flight training.  Remember, make the plane do what you want it to do!  Good luck!

I understand what you mean when you say " make the plane do what you want it to do ".  Another way of saying that might be;  understanding what the plane is designed to do, what it wants to do, and not constantly get in its way by over controlling it. A sensitive, fingertip approach, a minimalist mindset.  Once I learned that, flying became much more enjoyable and a lot less work. Prior to this understanding, I was the one that needed to be controlled every bit as much, if not more, than the airplane I was trying to manhandle.  You are right, " make the plane do what you want it to do, " and the counter intuitive approach I just outlined, has, for me, been the door to success in that regard.
