New to the Hanger but not to AOPA!

Posted by Dale Sanders on Mar 19, 2018 11:15 am

...just happen to find this AOPA service after many years of being an AOPA member.  Just sold a Cherokee 6-300 after several years of ownership.  I'm now concentrated on my ME, CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings.  OH, BTW, did I mention I'm 61 and in good health.  Many of my pilot peers have been after me to complete the ratings and teach as they all say they have learned from me flying with them or them flying with me.  I'm a GA Pvt Pilot, IFR rated with somewhat over 5000 hours of flite time.  I LOVE to teach and help other pilots so, I guess it's time to get those ratings, including the commercial and move on up.
I'm and electrical engineer my vocation and I'm planning on changing professions as soon as I get the ratings completed.  As many have said to me....."we need some older, seasoned, pilots to teach."  The young CFIs do a great job but they're not in the education part of aviation for the long haul and many of them have not flown the system except for their cross country requirements.  So I figure, I can use my experience in many different airplanes to start the primary students off right, help the licensed guys with their BFRs and IPCs and, hopefully, learn some more in the meantime.  Plus, do something I truely love to do................
Glad to be here,

Dale,

It's good to hear from fellow AOPA members like me. I've been an on and off again member since the early 1980's when my dad (an A and P) got his private. I too am getting into the digital side of AOPA and looking forward to knocking off the rust. Welcome!

"we need some older, seasoned, pilots to teach."
I agree... some of my worst and most dangerous flight expeirences were with the time builder CFI...
I also found the younger the CFI the more likely they were to charge for ground instruction that never occured.

Welcome to the hanger. I agree with your peers, we do need older, more experienced pilots who want to teach. There are things that you have learned that can't be taught in the book. BTW, I am also an older pilot at 62. I enjoy flying and learning from other pilots.
