Fly in places to eat

Posted by Daniel Siegle on Apr 27, 2017 10:42 am

So many publications regarding the "$100" hamburgers are out of date.   I will list some really nice places that are active and open within mid Atlantic area as of spring 2017.   I would LOVE it if other ideas were posted, suggested and recommended places to fly in for food.

Greenwood Lake (4N1) Northern NJ. Escala Latin Bistro - excellent food fly in
Sky Manor (N40) Central NJ.  Sky Cafe - excellent food fly in
Lancaster (KLNS) South Eastern PA. Florentino's - excellent food and service fly in

Reading (KRDG) South Eastern PA.  Klingers new restaurant  - excellent food and fly in
Chester County (MQS) South Eastern PA.  Flying Machine Cafe - excellent food and fly in

Any other ideas or suggestions?

26N - Ocean City, NJ - Great Food at the airport diner, and only a 15 minute walk to the beach.  Uber is readily available for a 10 minute car ride to the board walk.  Great place for day trip.

While I agree with you, this particular forum isn't the best format for capturing this.  It's too difficult to keep it up to date with relavent info.  We'll end up with stale data on a rolling bulletin board system.

Maybe, though, it's time to create a system that does work.  (Wheels are turning...). I, too, spend a lot of time looking for places to go and places to eat with good fuel prices on my personal aviation trips.

In the meantime another great place to check out flying destinations is the AOPA Destinations page. Even if you can't make it to these locations, I think it'll certainly spark a desire to explore your local area!

For West Coasters, you can't go wrong at the DC-3 restaurant and gift shop on Catalina Island, California. It's about 20 miles from Los Angeles and the flight to the island has its own unique challenges that will make you a better pilot. Well worth the trip!

I've used
to find easy grub while flying GA in the past.

My local targets near Frederick MD for lunch are
KESN (standard fare, I like the club sandwich)
KOXB (hop a cab, eat on the boardwalk)
KHGR (Nick's Airport Inn; I haven't had lunch at the new restaurant at the FBO yet)
KAGC (get a crew car and use Waze to find the nearest Primanti Brothers)
KLNS (good pizza)
and it's a bit of an effort, but well worth it: KACY and get some subs at White House Subs  . Bring home a bunch of the white house special subs for your friends, They will appreciate it.

Finally: come here to FDK, get a tour of AOPA, and try the Maryland crab soup at the Airways Inn.

Chester County G.O. Carlson airport in Coatesville, PA KMQS.  Great food, and a fun atmosphere.

Fredericksburg, Texas, T82, Gillespie County Airport, Airport Diner. Also a great hotel right on the ramp. Call the Diner, 830-997-9990, for details on days/times open .
