Good morning Hangar!  My wife and I are considering a trip down to the FL Keys from north TX in a few weeks and I am looking for suggestions on places to go and how to prepare.  Thank you in advance!

Rich, here are a couple of sites that will last you a while to preview. The weather is perfect this time of the year and and VFR flying in Florida is an every day affair.
Just cut and paste and you are on your way.

There have been quite a few mornings lately with fog that is dense and hangs around until mid-morning, so watch the weather carefully.  But that isn't the norm, and you should be able to have some nice flying days.

Consider a stop at KCDK - Cedar Key.  It is a somewhat short runway, and there are no facilities, but it is one of those quintessential places that GA pilots can easily visit and get a taste of vintage Florida.  It's about a one mile leisurely stroll into town, but on many days there is a lady monitoring the CTAF who provide taxi rides into town.

X01 - Everglades City, is another fun town to stop in.  Not a lot going on, but the quiet town is a nice place to stroll and stretch.

Note that fuel isn't available at KDCK.

Thanks for the tips!

We will definately have to stop in at CDK - you are the second person to recommend that as a "must do"!

One question - should I rent (don't want to buy one) a raft and life jackets?

Check out Aviation City a Fly-In/Camp-Out center in Arcadia, Fl. Right on X06. It is great!
