Convincing a physician to conduct a BasicMed physical

Posted by Peter Quattrociocchi on Jul 10, 2017 2:24 pm

Has anyone convinced their doctor to conduct a BasicMed physical?  I can't tell if my doctor is afraid of legal consequences or protecting the income stream of the local AME.  All he says is that the community is having a conversation about BasiMed, do not want to rush into it.  It's a stinking physical!

If anyone has made a convincing argument with their physician please pass it on.

I'm having the same problem finding a doctor that will do the BasicMed here in the Bullhead City, AZ area.   I've checked several doctors and have trouble even getting past the rececptionist.  When they hear anything about airplanes they want to refer me to an AME.    When I ask my regular AME in Vegas if he can do a BasicMed, he says NO.  I'm sure I haven't looked hard enough, but maybe somewhere there is a list of doctors who will do a BasicMed.   I'll keep looking before I give up.

I just called AOPA Pilot Info Center (888-462-3976) and explained my problem of finding a doctor willing to do BasicMed.   They were very helpful.  They were able to provide the 3 closest doctors in my area, one in Yuma and 2 in Phoenix area.  200 miles or more away, but that's better than nothing.
